Such a special and well supported event to bring the curtain down on 2016! Thank you for coming along to enjoy a celebration of local and handmade. With a medley of 30 handpicked makers to explore, heavenly tunes by Serena + Cohen, picnic food by Ugly Food & Co, your favourite jam and jewellery workshops, the market was bursting with lovely things to enjoy. We saw approximately 500 visitors which really made our day! Making this our biggest and most successful Handmade Samford market. We now wish to keep this lovely flow happening into the new year! We have plans to release a new area of the market to welcome new makers and bring you the finest, curated, handmade shopping experience we can assemble. Thank you for visiting. We saw 1000+ of you! Here is a collection of photos from our beautiful Handmade Redcliffe makers that popped up shop this year. It was almost a rain out but the sun popped her head out for the opening and stayed with us! Our celebration of locally made was a go, go! Phew, I mean all that work, we just couldn't be washed out. Santa popped in and sprinkled his "ho, ho, ho" cheer around 10.30am till lunchtime. He remarked on some of the fine work he saw by the Handmade Redcliffe makers! Serena's music charmingly called you to visit the hub area where an eclectic collection we dubbed the Maker Emporium was on show. Along with Sarah's fine asian salads and Dawn's Christmassy cupcakes. Outside on the lawns, coffee & gelato, beautiful soaps, handmade toys, Christmas card station, cushions, jewellery, feltwear, childrenswear, jams & chutneys + more! A visit from the harmonicist was an old-world treat. Handmade meets the Arts is the coming together of the Handmade Redcliffe markets with local artists and members of the Moreton Bay Arts Council at the Old Redcliffe Fire Station. It's also an open day for the Redcliffe Pottery Group and Redcliffe Art Society where they open their doors to their studios hosting demonstrations and pop up shops. The Old Fire Station is home to the Redcliffe Art Society gallery and retail shop which is open Wednesday to Sunday 10.00am - 3.00pm if you're wishing to visit before the next market day. You will be able to catch the Handmade Redcliffe makers again here on Saturday 25 February 2017. This was the third market we hosted at this iconic and beautiful location. We brought together as many of our local creatives we could muster with Moreton Bay Arts Council to create a handmade wonderland of 60+ stalls. An initiative of Handmade Redcliffe & Moreton Bay Arts Council since 2015. Pop in and say hello at Handmade Samford this Saturday for our final market for 2016. Christmas Markets {Take One] Saturday 5 November 2016. See you for {Take Two} on Saturday 3 December 9am - 3pm! Photos courtesy of rose.photography & Jannie Lowe This Saturday we will be rolling up our sleeves and rolling out a {VERY SPECIAL} community project just in time for our 2015 {SPRING MARKET} called {THE COMMUNAL TABLE} ~ a place in our market to sell homegrown fare. At the next Handmade Redcliffe market there will be the opportunity to bring your homegrown herbs, flowers, vegetables, fruits plus eggs and honey to sell at the market for free. We're putting the call out to locals who have an abundance of local produce they have grown to come and set up shop for the day. To apply to be a part of the Communal Table, email us. "I am noticing more and more that families are growing their own homegrown fare and are sometimes left with more to share. I wanted to see if there is a need for this and thought we would create an opportunity in the market. This year my neighbour's passionfruit vine crept into my garden. It was one of the most glorious things. So much fruit for just one family, so this got me thinking", Market Curator, Janmaree Lowe said. ![]() I am putting the call out to you first. Do you have any excess homegrown produce or eggs or honey you would like to bring to this Saturday's market to sell? Perhaps you have a neighbour who has fruit trees? I have a handful of half spots {half of a trestle table} that I am providing to the community complimentary to see if there is a need for this. Table and shelter provided. The participating stallholder simply needs to bring in their garden fare, set the prices and stay to sell. You may also wish to donate excess garden fare to the market. Monies raised will be put towards our 'support an artist' program. "We are looking forward to bringing our makers together in 'their own backyard' with garden fare stalls this Saturday 3 October 2015, 9.00am to 3.00pm at Reid's Place, Scarborough" {see details below}. Handmade Redcliffe was born out of a need to provide a home to our local makers to showcase high quality and on trend works. After waiting for many years for someone to create this opportunity we took the first steps to initiate this for our community. We are well into the journey now {threes years on}. I am excited to extend this mission to those with an abundance of homegrown garden fare to also set up shop! This Saturday you will also find {FREE CREATIVE WORKSHOPS} across the day. We love the {JOY MAKING BRINGS YOU}. It's also a neat way to thank our customers that frequent the markets by passing on our skills. With Christmas approaching, it's a sneaky way to start preparing some handmade gifts on us. We will have fresh flower and herb posies for sale on the {COMMUNAL TABLE} to kickstart this new community project. Plus eggs, rosemary and lavender. {MORE COMING IN AS I TYPE}. Spring is when everything comes to life and a resurgence in life and energy is seen. Such a perfect time for this celebration of our local gardeners and makers. What better setting could we ask for than Beth Reid's florally gardens. {HELLO SPRING} xx Janmaree For the full creative workshop program
Excitingly this weekend is our first ever double day of markets! We are celebrating Mum and have put together exclusive offers from our makers. As an extra treat, we are sharing in this blogpost a decadent recipe for all our beautiful Mums that follow us to tuck away in the recipe book from The Chocolate Cakery. Mother's Day recipe by Lynne McKellar, The Chocolate Cakery ~Sometimes you just need warm fudgy deliciousness! These Chocolate Fudge Muffins fit the bill perfectly. You can melt the fudge if you're feeling energetic or simply stir through small pieces of chopped fudge (my preference) either way you'll have morsels of chocolate heaven in no time. If you want more of a chocolate hit simply replace one tablespoon of SR flour with one tablespoon of cocoa powder. If you want caramel muffins, use caramel fudge, how easy is that! They're just as nice with or without icing, and especially good warm with ice cream. I really hope you enjoy making (and eating) these muffins, they just might become your favourites too! Chocolate Fudge Muffins Ingredients Muffins 200g SR flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 140g chocolate fudge 3 eggs 85g melted butter 30g brown sugar Icing 60g butter 30g golden syrup 2 tablespoon milk 200g icing sugar 30g cocoa powder Method To make Muffins Place fudge in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 2-3 minutes (or simply chop into small pieces) Place other ingredients in a separate bowl and whisk until smooth Beat in melted fudge (or stir through chopped fudge) Spoon into 18 mini muffin cases or 7-8 large muffin cases Bake at 165 deg C for 10-12 mins for mini muffins or 15-20 minutes for larger ones To make Icing Melt butter, golden syrup and milk together Sift cocoa and icing sugar together, mix in liquid ingredients and beat well. Spread or drizzle over muffins, leave until set Most important step, enjoy! ~ Written by Lynne McKellar, owner of The Chocolate Cakery for Love Handmade. Lynne and her team will be on hand this weekend with handmade chocolates, artisanal fudge and her range of unique slices and cookies { y u m }. Special offers we have put together just for you ~Looking forward to welcoming you to Love Handmade Redcliffe this weekend.
xx Janmaree On 7 February 2015, Love Handmade Redcliffe hosted a Garden Party market in the Wedding Gardens at Reid's Place with high tea, inviting lovers to indulge for Valentine's Day. The launch market at Reid's Place was very pretty and a roaring success! We will be back again for another garden inspired market for Mother's Day on Saturday 2 May 2015 from 9.00am to 3.00pm with the option to stay for Beth Reid's popular high tea.
Thank you to our family of makers for supporting our market and giving our vision life. To our wonderful community of followers for supporting a maker's dream and by doing so, breathing life into what they create by giving handmade and locally produced pieces a home. Thank you rose.photography for your wonderful photos! Thank you Ruby & Rose Interiors for supplying artwork and Nadine Sawyer Art for being an ambassador and supporter of our markets, we have loved working with you over the past twelve months. Saturday, 18 April 2015, will be the last chance to purchase Nadine's work at one of our markets. Find Love Handmade Redcliffe at the Redcliffe Library Gallery, from 9.00am to 4.00pm, for a cultural mini market and in the same outing, explore Shaun Tan’s The Lost Thing: From book to film. Sharing here some memories from February's Garden Party Market, hope you enjoy. xx Janmaree Lowe Market Curator ![]() This Saturday 21 March is the first {love} Handmade Samford market for 2015, for my first blogpost I will share a little about our makers and the mission of the market. The market runs every second month in pretty Samford and this year we will continue to define our presence and work to produce innovative events that encourage connection between maker and community. With a foundational mission of providing a home to makers to showcase their wares in their own neighbourhood, new applications are sought all year round from those wishing to get behind the pop up feel of the market by setting up shop for the day. Our community of makers is a creative ecosystem, we are continually striving to evolve and grow. This is our country market and we have a very particular purpose: to lovingly showcase handmade design in a beautiful country setting close to Brisbane. The backdrop of the Samford Valley is an important attraction as is the late 1800's Old Samford Church Hall - the short drive from Brisbane is well worth the thirty five minutes to capture the country getaway feel. We have a very special lineup of makers this month, diverse and inspiring, with products proudly made in Brisbane. Some stall highlights include: 1. Mish n Mesh 2. Pattie Murray Ceramics 3. Nadine Sawyer Art 4. Helen McDowall Design 5. Jane Bluehorn 6. Peas & Carrots Photography 7. Poppy Wynter Designs 8. Tickle the Imagination magazine We will be running a craft activity inspired by Tickle the Imagination Issue 19. Patrons will be invited to draw spots and stripes on art paper and turn this into an arty garland. The workshop will run 1.00pm to 2.00pm, there is no charge to participate. This is a magazine produced in Western Australia by Tanya Collier and celebrates all things beautiful and handmade in Australia. The three guiding words of the publication are dream, create and inspire. Each issue is produced around these words with maker stories, craft tutorials and contemporary styled shoots. Matthew Taudevin will perform from 11.30am onwards, he has a handmade guitar, there is not another in the world like it Matthew tells me. I have seen how his music comes to life with an audience, so be sure to gather around him, watch his graceful fingers play and listen to his acoustic loveliness. ![]() Very much looking forward to welcoming you and introducing you to our beautiful family of makers this Saturday! We won't be back again until 16 May 2015 in Samford, so be sure to pop in and support handmade. xx Janmaree |
