Selvedge and Bias

After working in the fashion and soft furnishing industries for 30 years I felt the need to start rescuing some of the fabrics otherwise destined for landfill. Selvedges have always appealed to me and so I began collecting and creating. Currently I'm turning them into bags, clutches and homewares. I will be adding to the collection soon with cushions and fashion accessories. Once you look closely at selvedges you begin to see their potential. They often have a tiny fringe on one edge and to me it seemed such a waste to throw them away.

I work in a soft furnishings workroom during the day. I carefully salvage pieces of scrap that would otherwise end as landfill to repurpose in my designs. - Debra Verrall
